The Holy Father, having learned of the death of Father Marie-Dominique
Philippe, Founder of the Family of Saint John, requested of the Cardinal
Secretary of State to send in his name the following message of condolences
to Father Jean-Pierre-Marie, General Prior of the Congregation of
Saint John: The Vatican, August 26, 2006 « Father Jean-Pierre-Marie Prior General of the Congregation of Saint John Having learned of the death of Father Marie-Dominique Philippe, Pope Benedict XVI unites himself in prayer to all those who mourn, in particular to those closest to the deceased, as well as to the entire Family of Saint John, of which he was the Founder. The Holy Father asks the Lord to welcome into His Kingdom him whom, during long years, guided and formed numerous people at the school of Christ, in the spirit of the “beloved disciple,” |

rooting them in the profound love of the Church and in fidelity to the Successor of Peter. His Holiness gives thanks for the life of Father Marie-Dominique, entirely given to the Lord and to his brothers, rooted in the meditation of the Word of God, in the research and the passionate contemplation of the truth. May his testimony give to all whom he has guided the necessary élan in order that the Gospel of Christ be ever announced, welcomed and lived. Confiding you, as well as all the members of the Family of Saint John and all those who will take part in the funeral rites of Father Marie-Dominique, to the Virgin Mary, Queen of Apostles, to Saint John and Saint Dominique, the Holy Father imparts to all, as a pledge of consolation, a special Apostolic Blessing.
